#showtherealyou – Tahana Lee AKA @talkhealthytome

I am super excited to share with you this weeks #showtherealyou feature, Tahana Lee AKA @talkhealthytome AKA @tahanalee AKA mummy to @achillies.lkc! Seriously people this mumma is a superwoman! Finding time juggle looking after her little man, be a loving partner to her man, train her but off and run 3 Instagram pages and a blog! You go girl! Plus she is seriously the sweetest thing ever! This girl hides nothing… what you see if what you get and that’s what I love about her and I know you will too!

Grab your phone or laptop and put your feet up and enjoy 10minutes with the lovely TAHANA LEE!

Favourite hot drink?

I LOVE myself a JUMBO hazelnut latte. It is my guilty pleasure which I probably have more often than I should.

Can you tell me who the REAL Tahana Lee is?

I’m not sure I even know at the moment.

I know I am passionate, driven and motivated and I thrive off helping other people. I always do more than required and always makes the moments count. I am a hopeless romantic and I’m not afraid to express how I feel. I am strong, mentally and physically and I finally know what I deserve in this life. I’m madly in love with the most incredible man. I LOVE being outdoors and doing things and trying new experiences and visiting different places. I want to be extremely successful and work for myself. I love nothing more than being a mother and my family is my home.

At the moment I am kind of struggling to find who I am outside of being a mum. I love it so much that its all I want to do but at the same time I crave some aspects of me back in my life. I’m so caught up in being a mum I’ve probably lost a few of the qualities I listed above and I need them back, I don’t want to feel vulnerable anymore and worry about doing everything right, I want to feel strong and like I can take on the world again. All that I can do is find balance in this beautiful chaos.

Tell me about a day in the life of Tahana Lee?

As you would know with a little one, no two days are the same! I have been back at work full time for almost four months now so those five days a week are a massive struggle for me leaving the little man. So I will go ahead and tell you our typical weekend as those are the days I love the most.

We wake between 4-5am for the first feed (I say first but more than likely hes up at 2am as well for some night time milk) . After that one we fall back asleep in our bed for a few hours and then wake to Ben’s alarm and then have family cuddles until the last minute when we have to get out of bed to start the day!

We cook breakfast and eat it as a family.

On Saturdays we head for our weekly coffee in Paddington where we more often than not get a little cake or macaron (French bakeries make it hard to resist). Ben then works for most of the day and Achilles and I typically enjoy the day playing, reading and venturing about and there’s usually a visit from the grandparents.

On Sundays we do our weekly grocery shop and occasionally we will get lunch out as a little treat as we rarely eat out as Ben is training to be a body builder so his diet is pretty strict so I like to support him and eat super healthy as well haha.

Before the tedious task of meal prepping, we go to our local park for a nice stroll together and play with Achilles on the slides and swings.

I treasure weekends so much more now I am at work. As much as I wish I could spend all day, every day with our little man.

You are a gorgeous mumma to your son Achilles (who is extremely cute) can you please share a favourite #mumlife moment?

How do I choose but one! Last weekend, we were sitting on the couch together and he just blurts out “book” and then said it another four times whilst looking at his favourite book! I cried with pride. Just seven months old and he loves his books enough for it to be his third word (hey and dad are the other two). You know I took him to the shops that day and got him many more books! Have all of the books! It’s amazing because Ben and his family are such book people (his parents have over 30,000 in their own library at home) so it was extra special to us!

What drove you to create your Instagram account @talkhealthytome I love it?

Thank you!

It’s kind of a long story but I will try to keep it short. My teen/ early adult life I struggled with being healthy, it was just never at the top of my priority list, at all and I never bothered to educate myself about what healthy actually meant. In 2012 I changed that and became the real me. The healthy, happy, energized, extroverted, real version of Tahana. Shortly after, I entered an unhealthy relationship which reversed everything I had done.

After a year I realised how unhappy I was and that I was back to the version of Tahana I didn’t like or want to be. I’m always a RIGHT NOW person so I created the account that day! I was originally anonymous on the account as I was still in the relationship and didn’t want them to know. It was my way of getting ME back. It gave me the strength to end that relationship and gave me a platform to share my journey back to healthy, back to me and hold myself accountable! I am SO SO glad I started this account because it is actually how I met Ben, the love of my life!

What do you think attracts women to your site?

You’ll see from my account I’m not shy about sharing quite a lot of my life on social media. I’m pretty raw and don’t bother posing for photos with pretty backgrounds or looking my best, I’m just posting photos of me in the gym, workout videos of me working my ass off, motivational quotes and now of course, photos of my gorgeous son! I also think there are so many women who can relate to struggling to find healthy and I think the fact I shared my struggle with that and the journey to how I found it resonated with some people. Now I’m a new Mum and going through a different struggle all together and I know that seeing other people fighting through the same thing helps me, so I’m hoping I’m helping them too!

What is your favourite quote or mantra?

“Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right!”

I’ve lived by this for so long now and I just love it. I even used it during labour! haha. You HAVE to believe in yourself if you want to achieve your goals. Switch on that posivite thinking way of life and you’ll achieve so much more!

I see you are an active mumma. How often do you find the time to move your body?

These days it is whenever and wherever I can. Pre baby and during pregnancy, there wasn’t a day you wouldn’t find me in the gym lifting heavy weights and breaking a sweat. Post baby and I think I’ve been inside a gym max ten times (not including my PT sessions). I’ve started PT and go two times per week and on the other days I vow to leave the house as soon as I get home from work after feeding Achilles and we go for a walk in the local park where I’ve started recording my little workout sessions I do there! Getting a PT was a big deal for me as I am studying to be one myself as I had vowed to never go to one again after going through so many and never finding one with as much passion as I do for health. Luckily I found an amazing one who even lets me bring Achilles along which is just so incredibly helpful.

Favourite activewear?

I don’t discriminate against any active wear. If it’s active wear, I dig it and I wear it… A LOT. Some of my fave brands are Lorna (of course), Running Bare and good old Nike and Adidas!

Go to healthy recipe?

At the moment, Ben and I are really in to omelettes. 3 eggs, 50g spinach, 50g red capsicum, 50g, onion, 50g tomato et voila, deliciousness! I cannot get enough, I’ve been having them for breakfast every morning and sometimes I’ll double up and have it for dinner as well!

What advice would you give to other people out there wanting to start a blog/Instagram?

Just like I did, just do it! Especially with a health account, it is such an amazing way to hold yourself accountable. You never know where it will take you or who you will meet!

What more from this gorgeous lady?

30 minutes of #metime thanks to trefiel

Me time – hmmm sometimes I wonder what those two words mean. Life is so crazy busy now with balancing #mumlife, part time nursing work life, blog life and everyday housework. Not to mention  being a wifey, a friend, a sister and a dog walker. I understand that me time is something that is important for our sanity and well being so I am truly going to try my best to commit to some time out for my self.
I do pencil in 3 workouts a week at the gym which is important to me for my overall health but sometimes I feel like I need to put my feet up, give myself a pamper and lye down horizontal without any interruptions.

I had recently read about trefiel’s self care movement on their instagram. It’s a pledge to take 30minutes of me time while pampering yourself with their stunning lace masks. SOLD I can commit to that!

So last week that’s exactly what I did. Once I had put Cruz to bed, I put on my mediation music, lit a candle, opened my mask from trefiel and after taking a selfie (of course) I laid down horizontal and feel fast asleep with my alarm clock waking me 30minutes later.

Not only was the 30minutes of doing nothing absolutely heaven, I was treating my much needed skin with extra love and care it desperately needed. The masks are plant based sheets that super easy to apply. As soon as you put one on you feel a sense of coolness on your face anchor know it’s doing its thing to make you preeerttty!

So ladies and gentlemen too, you should totally join the trefiel self care movement too. Honestly is 30minutes of pure bliss. There are four formulas to choose from depending on your skin type, brightening, firming, moisturising and repairing. Get on to it.

Happily Ever After – 09.09.2016

On the 9th September 2016 I married my soul mate, David. David and I have been together since December 2011. We met at a festival in Brisbane City and shortly started dating not long after. We got engaged in April 2015 and had our darling little boy in October 2015.

The wedding ceremony was held at Macarthur Park Chapel and Gardens and the cocktail style reception was held at Pacific Resort Cleveland  function room. The chapel is 96 years old and was the perfect location with the surrounding lake and bushlands to hold our dream wedding. Karen the owner of the gardens was an absolute delight to work with, making our day extra special. Pacific Resort function room was decorated by the gorgeous Carol from Creatively Bespoke Wedding & Events and she did such a beautiful job. I loved the set up of the bridal table, round tables and bar stools for guests. A huge thank you to Sarah from Pacific Resort Functions you were an absolute pleasure to work with. I LOVED staying in the penthouse above the Raby Bay marina, it just added that special touch to the whole experience.

My lashes and brows for the day were done by the gorgeous Emma from @emjsskinandbeauty. Emma has seven years experience with lashes and brow shaping and I had the “deluxe” set for my wedding day.

The hair and make up were done by the talented girls from @stepnouthairandbody. I had Bec do our hair and @alannahpritchardmakeup do my make up for myself and my bridesmaids. They do great wedding hair and make up packages. I felt very relaxed with the girls and we all shared lots of laughs.

Our flowers were all created by the beautiful Amy from @daisyandcoflowers. Amy was very prompt and so easy to liaise with. She did a wonderful job. She made me a gorgeous flower crown and I loved the bouquets she created! So talented.

Our wedding cake was created by my lovely friend Kate. It taste as delicious as it looked. I wish it was a never ending cake. Love her work. Very talented! That cake was certainly made with love. So sad we ate all the spare cake from the freezer!

My photographer was a close friend Catherine Stonebridge who has taken all my family and maternity photos. I am so pleased with what she has shown me so far. I cannot wait to see them all! I felt so comfortable with Catherine and she made David and I feel completely at ease in front of the camera.

Our wedding videographer was created by wedding photographer Danielle D’Arcy. I love watching the highlights from our big day.

Lastly here are some happy snaps from the big day with with our friends and family!

I hope you enjoy.

Lucia de Mello – arghhhh what a name! It sounds so exotic, you instantly want to  get to know this woman a little more, just by reading her name!
Lucia and I got to know each other over an Acai Bowl, you know that moment when you are sitting across from someone and you think “heck yes, did we just became good friends” ?  Well I had that exact moment with Lucia! We had so much in common, our values and outlook on life are so similar. Plus that girl can cook a delicious meal for you, I will put my hand up any day to be a guest in Lucia’s kitchen. I have so many positive things to say about this beautiful lady, but I’ll ket you get to know her in the interview so you can make up your mind how much you love her too!
I love your words in this interview Lucia, and I am so sure all of you will love them too. So sit back ladies, put your feet up for 10 and enjoy this weeks #showtherealyou feature…

Favourite hot drink?
mmm this is tricky because I don’t really drink many hot drinks, but in Winter every now and again I sip on tea! Last winter my fave was a Green Tea & Pomegranate tea J
Can you tell me who the REAL Lucia is?
The real Lucia is a true lover of life. I consider myself to have great inner strength, I’m truly happy, I can be super stubbourn, totally sarcastic and a perfectionist (which are both for strength and weakness). I can be super impatient in some situations and I can also be short tempered at certain people that i actually love to pieces *coughs* (Thiago). I surround myself with those that support, uplift, encourage and love me. I don’t have space for negative and toxic people in my life. If I come across any, I remove them or I remove myself. I am immensely grateful for my place here on earth, for my family, friends, for the freedom I have, the opportunities available to me and for the beauty that each day presents. I am spiritual, intuitive and I am very sensitive to other people’s energies. I consider myself very in tune ~ i see through bullshit and fake personas. I crave genuine. I do love learning about crystals, giving oracle card readings, optimistic people and all things nature. I love being creative and being by the ocean I am in my element. I get so happy and calm when I’m at the beach that it makes me emotional simply thinking about it. I love people. Especially helping people. (This doesn’t mean I want to be friends with everyone or love everyone). I find a lot of people confide in me and come to me for advice. Perhaps it’s because I have an open heart and an open mind, so I don’t judge them or their story/situation?

I believe self love encompasses many aspects of YOU. It’s not just about the physical body. It is SOOOO much more than that. SO much more! I truly do love who I am. I never question myself as a person, I’m very confident in who I am. I am however insecure in my physical appearance and it’s an aspect of self love I have been working on for a very very long time.
As a friend I am loyal, honest and reliable. I am “the” friend that you can make a 2:00 am drunken call to and I’ll be there! haha. I actually do not mind! (although haven’t done this with a baby yet, so perhaps times have changed!) I love being there for my family and friends. I would do anything for them.
Rambling….sorry! #stoppingrighthere
You recently became a mumma to that handsome little man Luca, how are you coping with it all?
Ah man…he’s so darn cute right!? To be honest, life has definitely changed. I am extremely blessed. I absolutely love being a mama. So far he has been the happiest and most chilled little guy and doesn’t make too much of a fuss. (He has just started teething though! His two top teeth), so he has been a little grizzly here and there, but overall he’s a little champ. I am also extremely appreciative of my supportive and easily accessible network and my husband and my mum are my angels. My husband is very hands on! I think he was made to be a dad.  Offers to do the overnight feeds when he can and when he arrives home from work he is all hands on deck. He really enjoys being a dad, nothing is ever too much of an ask. Oh and my mum, ah bless her! She is anxious with excitement every day just to see her little Luca bear. She will usually stop by after work a few times a week and look after Luca for a few hours. When she arrives Luca is beside himself! It’s beautiful. We have been contemplating a sea change for years, but as you can see, having my family support so close, it’s hard to move right now.
Tell me about a day in the life of Lucia and Luca?
Well! Not any one day is the same, but let’s imagine we’re at home all day … sometimes I like not knowing every detail of my day ahead. I call myself a “free range” parent haha! ALTHOUGH in saying that, lately I have realised that being a mum perhaps I do need a routine in some areas of my life, because being a mum is also extremely unpredictable some days.

OK, so, Luca will usually wake up with the sunrise, so it’s around 5:30am at the moment. He greets me the widest grin and his limbs have a dance party and I quickly pick him up so that they’re don’t fly off his body! Luca will have his bottle, I will have my lemon water and then we go for a walk (now that I am back into my postpartum fitness!). Luca will usually sleep for most of the walk.
When we arrive home I will eat my breakfast and Luca will usually wake up just as I’m finishing up. Then we play on the mat/play gym. Have chats and giggles. Luca will have another bottle as he drinks every 3 hours. Then he will have his morning sleep 1-2 hours. During this time I tidy up, or edit videos or whatever I need to get done.
When he wakes up we play around a bit more, I continue doing what I need to do, sometimes I carry him in my baby carrier so that we can hang out together but I can still do my thing. Then he will have his lunch time nap.  When he wakes up it’s feed/play time and often we will sit by the pool or go for another walk. Then by 4pm my mum arrives (on some days) and takes care of him or goes for a walk with him and I do whatever I need to do, which sometimes is just chill or have a nap. Then she comes back around 5:30pm.
At about 6:00pm Luca will have a bath and then his bottle and he is usually in bed by 6:30pm. Then he wakes every 3-4 hours for a bottle, but he usually just drink in his cot, we burp him and he continues sleeping.

That’s an average staying at home kinda day! Usually our days are much busier than this!

What drove you to create your Instagram account @the_thriving_elephant?

@the_thriving_elephant was a name change I made in June 2015. It was initially @livinglovinginspiring because I couldn’t think of name that I had a connection with and those three words were what I was all about.  In June 2015 I founded my business name and now IG name The Thriving Elephant.
My health journey is what led me to social media. First and foremost I wanted to share my story on the taboo subject of ‘stillbirth’. My first pregnancy almost took my life and sadly took the life of my son, Leo. After this I began to research and I educated myself. I wanted TTP to be known and understood. This then led me to researching more about Hashimoto’s and my high ANA inflammation markers. I experimented with all forms of food, fitness and holistic healing. Two and a half years post, April 2014 I had decided to eliminate gluten, dairy and refined sugars from my lifestyle cold turkey ( I was already vegetarian). I became so interested in eating healthy and creating recipes that I wanted to share it on a creative platform with others to access. I wanted to show everyone that eating healthy could be easy, that it could be enjoyable and most of all if was still delicious!

Another very important aspect of my blog was to inspire people to keep strong. I wanted to encourage and support others that had been through tough times or were going through a hard time to never give up. Not everyone has a support network like I had and I wanted to show them that there was still a fulfilling and happy life to be lived after the sadness and the pain. Ultimately, “Life is what YOU make of it”. I want people to know that it does get better and life is beautiful.
What do you think attracts women to your site besides your adorable little man updates?
From what the people tell me, definitely the food + positive vibes! I was exclusively a food + inspo blog before I had Luca. I would share daily recipes and have people all over the world recreate them. Since shifting my blog and my focus to include aspects of motherhood as well, I have lost thousands of my foodie followers, but I am now gaining those who enjoy my blog for what it is. It will take a while to find the balance and direction, but I think as we grow personally, our blogs change with us, and so do our followers, but the true supporters and friends we make along the way will be there no matter what our content may be.
What is something you love to practice daily?
I practice gratitude every single day. I have for a few years now. It isn’t at a certain time of day, although it used to be when I woke up and before I went to bed. Whereas now, I find myself doing it at any time of day.
I also meditate. I used to struggle with meditation but now I really enjoy it. I am currently restarting a 40 day meditation challenge which has got me all excited! Meditation is life changing.
I know first hand how busy it can be being a mumma, how do you find the time to move your body?
I’m not currently working, so my sole responsibility is Luca. I have only just gotten back into the swing of things in the past 3 weeks. This week is my fourth week. I have been enjoying morning walks and if I can’t make the morning walk I make it up during the day at another time. I also try and use the gym twice a week. I hope to amp up the gym sessions soon to 3 times a week. I am also trying out new classes in the coming weeks. Barre classes and my absolute favourite exercise ever, reformer pilates. They’re not very cheap so I take advantage of free passes when I can. Slowly but surely I am getting back into it!
Favourite activewear?
I have always been a Lorna Jane fan! She’s a Brisbane local entrepreneur SO INSPIRING! Everything always fits me (I’ve got a Kim K booty and small waist haha), I always feel motivated and good in her clothing! I haven’t really got much else in my “Activewear Wardrobe”.
Where do you find inspiration for your recipes?
When I first started my healthy eating journey I was already educated on foods that I should be fuelling and nourishing my body with, but I really wanted to try new things and get inspired by other ways of creating food (especially sweets hehe) so I decided to join instagram. I was inspired by some beautiful instagram accounts and their delicious feeds, but it didn’t take long before I started developing my own recipes and style. I have always loved a challenge. I have never owned a recipe book because I feel it blocks my creativity. Although… I really want to start collecting some because as I write my own book at the moment, I know how much love, time, heart and soul goes into writing a book. It’s not just any book, it’s a piece of each persons journey. There is something really special about that. Perhaps I should start a recipe book collection and begin by purchasing recipe books my friends have puiblished!
What advice would you give to other people out there wanting to start a blog/business?
Just do it. Take the leap of faith. Take small steps each day to get closer to your dream. What could you do today, to get one step closer to the dream? Perhaps it’s getting a pen and putting your thoughts on paper! Perhaps it’s creating a business/blog name? Maybe it’s organising your ABN (make sure its not taken), or organising your blog name (make sure its not taken). Always check if your name is available before you start anything! Try not to tell too many people your ideas if it’s a business (I have had a friend use my idea and run with it! I was shattered). Rely only on those you trust. Network and make connections with likeminded and genuine people. Most of all…. enjoy the process!
Be patient (something I have had to learn), amazing things don’t happen overnight. They usually happen with time, hard work, commitment and the recipe for success “consistency”.  Keep at it! The universe always has a plan for you in its own devine timing.
Chocolate or Sweets?
Chocolate! It’s so versatile, delicious and raw chocolate is pretty good too! Oh and it’s basically like eating your greens! Just check out this quote … (I’m sure you’ve all seen it before, but it’s gold!).
“Chocolate comes from cacao, which is a tree. That makes it a plant! Chocolate is salad! LOVE haha
What more from Lucia?
