Hustle, Soak, Repeat with Soak Society

So, a little history about how I came across Soak Society. I was at a Wellness event held by Kindred Toxin Free, there was a panel of inspiring #gamechangers and #girlbosses chatting to us that day. Natalie, the founder of Soak Society was on the panel. I loved listening to all those speakers that day, but something that Natalie said about self love and worth really stuck with me that day. I am a huge advocate for self love myself across my platforms so I loved listening to her share her journey. Natalie believes that every person that has a bath, should do their best to take the time to utilise it. At the time I was like…” hmm I am a working mumma, with a blog and a wifey. Do I actually have time to use my bath?…” I know I have a love for soaking and benefits of water alone on my body feels divine, but seriously time for a bath? Then I thought about it, I make time my daily walks, I make time to nourish my body, I make time for my workouts… Why if the feeling of a bath nourishes me, should I not make time or make it a priority, even just once a week for a bath?

A good book, a clean soak, crystals and a candle!

So fast forward 6 months and I AM having that bath weekly. Sometimes its alone with candles, sometimes its with some homemade choccies and flowers, but sometimes its with my two toddlers and their little toys making their way into uncomfortable places on my body. But… I am having that weekly bath and I feel great for it. So thank you Natalie for that gentle kick up my backside.

One of my midday baths – priorities right?

So anyway over that 6 months I tried a couple of soak society soaks, some were gifts from friends, some I purchased. As you know I also make my own soaks to with my essential oils. I to like Natalie, am deeply passionate about avoiding chemicals in skincare products. So I am so happy knowing that the Soak Society products are all about being as natural and as earthy as possible. You feel the difference on your skin and when you inhale the senses of the Soak Society products they don’t give you a headache, because it happened in the past when I was a little ignorant to the beauty industry and used to buy  soaks from the store that I now know are just packed with chemicals and nasty fragrance.

Literally how I Bath sometimes.

I recently got an email from Natalie enquiring if I would be a brand ambassador for Soak Society. I was so excited as 1. It would support and motivate me in my love for having a weekly bath,   2. I was a huge fan of hers, 3. I already used her soaks from time to time and was confident in the ingredients list. So you know I wrote back with a big HELL YES, right? I look forward in the next few months sharing their products and giving you my why over on my platform @aliceinhealthyland. A favourite so far has to be the Bath Dew – it gives you a bubble bath without all the nasties, its free from parabens, SLS or SLES, synthetic colours fragrances or preservatives, EDTA, silicones or mineral oils. It makes your skin few divine and its smells so good you could eat it. Haha! Plus is my toddlers jump in with me now and then I don’t feel bad about it harming their delicate skin.

I know now more than ever I am appreciating these baths. I am carrying our third child, running a business, working as a nurse, being a mumma and a wifey and running a blog. So these downtime’s are everything to me. Thank you Natalie from the bottom of my heart for reminding me to soak!

If you would like to Hustle, Soak, Repeat, too Natalie has created a special 15% off discount for you all. Use ALICE15 at the checkout. 🙏🏼

A little about Soak Society from their “about me” page on their website…

Soak Society was born in 2014 in a small apartment in New Farm, Brisbane. Founder Natalie wanted to share her love of soaking with the world, and begin to make baths cool again. Out with brightly coloured bath salt crystals and bombs, and in with beautiful wellness soaks made from the highest quality natural and organic ingredients.

Natalie – hustling while she relaxed! Argh big love!

Now based on the Sunshine Coast, Soak Society is still all about natural beauty and wellness (because putting chemicals on your body is the WORST), but is also wanting to be the catalyst for modern ‘me-time’.

Down-time to reflect, unwind and relax is SO important for everyone. Soaking is about reconnecting with yourself, and this is often when those ‘lightbulb’ moments appear.

It’s time to reclaim that bathroom, fill the tub, lock the door, grab your favourite read, light a candle and soak. We love to soak, and you will too.

We’re accredited by Choose Cruelty Free – an independent Australian non-profit organisation campaigning for a ban on animal-tested cosmetics.

#aliceinhealthylandcolonicjourney – with Mel from The Colonic Clinic Capalaba – Part 3

I have been seeing Mel at The Colonic Clinic Capalaba, for a little over 8 months now. So I thought it was time for a Colonic update. I have had 20 colonics now and feeling amazing about the whole journey. Every time I have a colonic I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders and my brain has had a mental clear out.

A lot of you ask me regularly why I get them? Well firstly they are a great way to rid the toxins from my body. I also have them to support my own gut health, I love getting them for my emotional well being as well.

7531161856_IMG_3816.jpg

In my previous blog,  My journey with Mel from The Colonic Clinic Capalaba (part 2) I had told you I was getting Colonics once a month on my period. Well a little has changed since then. I fell pregnant with our third child. So as soon as I found out this wonderful surprise I instantly told Mel. She told me it was time for a little break during the first trimester and for me to allow my bubba to grow. Mel told me the reason behind my colonic break during the first trimester, was due to the baby forming and growing its organs, plus you don’t want toxins stirring around in the mother’s blood. Mel said she was happy to continue treating me again once my second  trimester commenced as she had been treating me previously to this pregnancy. I had also had two births and 6 months of colonics prior. I personally was happy as well to continue my colonic journey, as I knew I would be able to determine the difference between labour pain/contractions and poo cramps. Mel and I have a strong professional/client based relationship which plays a significant role in my treatment. For my last trimester I will chat to my OB about getting a slightly different treatment from a colonic, but I will explain that closer to that time.

IMG_8728

I really missed my colonics during the first  3 months of my pregnancy, but I knew it was best for my growing bubba. I had my first one back a few weeks ago and lets just say it was the most relaxing procedure yet. Gosh it felt good to get back into them.

So what have I noticed since our last Colonic update…

Improvements to my skin – I made the switch to organic skin care products and facials earlier in the year. I have found that having colonics alongside this, is a great combination for my skin. I get extremely dry skin and I feel the Colonics hydrate me from the inside out. After a Colonic I feel like my organs have had a much needed drink! Mel uses ONLY purified water for the duration of the Colonic Hydrotherapy session.

I nourish my body with even more fruit and veggies - Yes that’s right. I feel that having these procedures, allows me to listen to my body and be more in tune with it. I know I feel great when I consume lots of colourful earthy plant based foods. I fill my plate with nourishing goodies and have eaten a lot less meat products. I do not eat dairy anyway but feel even better cutting out the meat too.

I say bye bye to parasites and tape worms everytime – Yes even the healthiest of us have them. I have only seen lots of little ones clinging to my waste, but sometimes I forget to look in the clear poo flushing pipe as I am so relaxed in there so I could be missing loads.

My Pelvic Floor is well trained – I think its from holding in the water, you switch on your pelvic floor and abdo muscles each time. #winning

7531215472_IMG_3821

My poops are wrist to elbow length everyday - haha TMI? hehehe NEVER we are talking about Colonics after all. My bowel motions are right on clock twice a day. I have never in my life had clockwork bowel motions. I also have a step in my toilet so I can have a correct technique during my daily poop experience haha.

My shifts during my colonics get more and more every time – It still amazes me that every colonic I have, my shift gets bigger and bigger! I let go of more crap from my body. Mel has a poo chart in her consultation area and we go through what number my poo was (see poo chart below). We discuss what my shift was like over coconut water and green smoothie, post treatment shots. Sometimes during my shift I get quite emotional. When I have a big shift I usually am extremely patient mentally and feel so light afterwards like I literally let that shit go.

My eye sight is clearer – this was one of the first huge changes I noticed. I still feel this is the case. “I can see clearly now the rain as gone” seriously though it’s mind blowing.

I sleep amazing after Colonics – Sometimes that night post treatment I have quite vivid dreams too.

My concentration levels are always at an all time high post treatment – Yes even with baby brain hehe.

Winter Rose’s Room Makeover

Winter Rose’s Room Makeover

With online styling help from Elisa – @thezeroprint + @blond.noir

We lived in a granny flat for almost 3 years so I was never able to style a nursery properly for Cruz. Then when we moved in to our new home in August, Cruz has a toddler room and Winter Rose well we just chucked the baby furniture in her room. She was on 6 weeks old then. The rooms needed painting which was on our to do list, so we thought there was no point decorating until we could afford to to that first. Then a few months past because you know – LIFE  – newborn, toddler, adjusting to our new home.

MAMMA Baby Care Electric Double Breast Pump Review.

mamma2.jpeg The gorgeous girls from MAMMA – SARA + ANNA

I connected with the gorgeous ladies Sara + Anna from Mamma Baby Care when I was pregnant with Winter Rose. The girls are Scandinavian Australian women who were good friends and became mummas around the same time. Sara and Anna are from the Northern Beaches of Sydney. After many walking dates and mummy catch ups the girls decided to create a double breast pump that was not only top of the range quality but affordable to the every day busy mumma.

I am extremely open about my breastfeeding journey. It hasn’t been everything I wanted it to be. At the beginning I had over engorged boobies which got quite painful. Then my supply went low when I started training. So I started pumping and taking lactation goodies from @milkandcookiesbyjewels to increase my supply. It worked a treat. After 3 months our little darling had only gained 500g. So I got some advice from an LC and a GP.? We gave it a little more time and I took some natural breastfeeding supplements like fenugreek and blessed thisile to increase the calories in my milk. Still Winter Rose only gained a little and was always hungry.

So we decided to give her formula one bottle a day. I give it to her either in the morning and try to give her EBM in the late arvo from a bottle. I love breastfeeding her to sleep in the evening.

So now I pump, breastfeed, sterilise bottles and formula feed. Haha! We got this though. My little girl is now thriving. She is so happy in between feeds. That’s what we want. Fed is best!

I love the Mamma Electric Double Breast Pump because it’s perfect for the everyday busy mumma. You can pop on the pumping bra, attach the pump and sit down why you express the milk quickly and efficiently. If you are wearing their pump bra you can do it hands free. So its perfect if you have work to do or a coffee to sip on. It has a timer on it so you know how long you been pumping for. I know I will love this function when I hear back to Work as I will know how long I can pump for on my break. The pump can be used as a single pump to, its super easy to switch between the double and the single function. The pump also has a 2-phase expressing feature. This feature gives you the option to switch between the massage mode (that stimulates and relaxes your breasts to start the milk flow) and suction mode that mimics your baby’s natural nursing rhythm. The pump has super soft silicone breast shields to ensure a comfortable pumping experience. The machine itself is so quiet too, so if you are pumping in the middle of the night your other half can still sleep or if you wish to pump in private say at work or at a event it’s very discrete.

The pump is cost effective. Only $249 for a quality electric double breast pump and the pumping bra. Seriously fantastic value for money, other electric double pumps on the market can cost up to $400-$500.

The Mamma Double Electric Breast Pump is defiantly a pump I would recommend to other mums. It has so many great qualities and I have only listed a few today. Stay tuned as in the next few weeks I will be interviewing the girls from Mamma Baby Care for my #behindthelabel segment too.

The ladies at Mamma Baby Care believe in giving back to the community and proudly donate 5% of all their sales to Forever Projects, who actively helps saving lives of little ones in need. All donations from MAMMA will be used directly to purchase lifesaving formula for babies in need through the Forever Projects team.

Alice In Pregnancyland #32weeks-38weeks

Pregnancy Emotions. Pregnancy Eating. Pregnancy Exercise. Pregnancy Style.

I actually cannot believe I am typing the last blog of the Alice In Pregnancyland series. (for now haha) I remember chatting To Tahlia about collaborating with me for the #bumpstyle shoots and now here we are at 37 nearly 38 weeks finishing off the bump series. I have really loved building a friendship with Tahlia from @wyldefolkstudio_ while we did the photoshoots she is such a kind hearted person. I now have a friendship for life with her. Not to mention how blessed I was to collaborate with so many gorgeous labels and maternity brands. throughout the 9 months. A huge thank you to everyone that followed the series and continued to send through such beautiful feedback. Big Love to you all.

Pregnancy Emotions

The last few weeks I have been on a emotional roller coaster. I have been so excited to meet the little one, I have had mum guilt with my one on one time with Cruzie, I have cried happy tears and I have cried god knows what tears. To me having a good cry really does help me just let it all out, breathe and then let it go. All these new emotions feel like it’s my heart is expanding and I am ready to meet our new little one now.

I finished up work at 36 weeks. Best decision as I was going to work to 37 weeks, the heaviness of nursing and being on my feet got to me a little. So I am so glad to be on maternity leave. It feels so different not having to go to work again.

I have been making the most of my time with Cruzie too. I have been taking him to singing and reading at the library, reading and extra snuggles at night time, park hangs and babycino dates. I am loving being off work with him again.

Everyone has been asking how Cruzie has been? Does he know? I think he knows a change is coming. He won’t let anyone rub my belly but David, he pushes their hand away or pulls my top down. We brought him a little dolly and he has been kissing it, changing its nappy, pushing it around in a pram. It’s so cute to watch. I think he will be a great big brother.

I keep telling myself that I need to slow down as my body is tired, but its true “nesting” is a real thing. I keep thinking of new things to do and clean. I forget to rest and I am on the go all day. Then I have the worse braxton hicks and back ache in the evening. So I should listen to all the advice and just put my feet up. Haha easier said than done though. Plus entertaining my little man. He sleeps well in the afternoon so I should just lay down then and watch some Offspring on tv. Maybe tomorrow? haha.

I went and seen my midwife for a 36 week scan and check up. The cheeky bubbas legs are sitting frog legged but the head is right down there. I keep thinking in my head that the baby will be here early because Cruz came early but I shouldn’t get my hopes up. I discussed my birth plan and what I wanted. My birth plan is to have a natural birth, hopefully not be on the monitor like last time, have a bath or hot shower, use essential oils and just have David in there. David is my rock and he really did help me through the breathing techniques last time. I do still feel anxious about the birth experience and labour but I am just trying not to think about it, what will be will be.

Pregnancy Eating.

With eating I have been a bit all over the place.

I wake up so hungry and have to eat before I go for a walk. For breakfast I normally have smoothies or protein pancakes. Thats its the I just swap it up between the two.

Then for snacks I have almonds, nuts, apple or a bliss ball. Sipping on so much raspberry leaf tea to ha.

Lunch is lots of greens and a source of protein or a chia sourdough with cheese, figs and cucumber sandwich or the same combo on rice cakes.

I am obsessed with Bolognese at the moment with zoodles (zucchini pasta), I am addicted love it. I also love white fish or salmon with greens for dinner, I have gone off all brown rice and sweet potato probably because my belly already fills so fall at night.

Cravings – organic milk chocolate from Flannerys Health Shop … YUM!!!!

Pregnancy Exercise

Walking 30-45minutes around the block (filled with hills) but very slowly as I get pelvic pressure. I put my podcast on and enjoy the metime I love it. Makes me feel better. I love doing about 20-40 push ups daily on the kitchen bench and 20 squats on the shower too. About 3 times a week I use my little 2kg weights and do a little arm workout too. If I have having an exhausting day I just don’t exercise at all. Maybe just do a stretch. The last week I have really slowed down, but thats okay, my body needs the rest.

Pregnancy Style

So besides loose boho styles and a few tight comfortable maternity dresses I have been living in maternity leggings and a jumper. Argh so comfy. I do love dressing up the bump, but I feel my wardrobe has become very limited and don’t really want to add to it till the baby is here.

For this #bumpstye shoot I wore a dress I purchased for a hens day a few months back. Its called the FAWN WRAP DRESS and I brought it from the @theselfstyler online. Guess what they just restocked it too. You can buy it HERE. Its perfect to take you through your pregnancy journey and will be great for breastfeeding too. Its not actually a maternity dress but it should be its so comfortable.

Tahlia and I decided for the last bump photoshoot we would find a beautiful spot with long grass (secret location) and invite David and Cruz to come along for some family photos. We had a lovely afternoon watching the sunset and Tahlia came with her family too, so nice. I hope you all enjoy the photos.

Thank you again for reading.

Big Love,

Alice (in healthyland) xoxo

Packing my hospital & baby bag for the labour & birth of my second child.

Photoshoot photographed and styled by Tahlia @wyldefolkstudio_

Sponsored by Baby Luno & Storksak

Storksak Noa Baby Bag. Available from Baby Luno.

Packing my hospital bag for my first pregnancy was very exciting. I Pinterested all these hospital bag lists and I was so excited with what I packed into my suitcase, ready for my babies arrival. When the time came, my husband grabbed the bags and brought them to hospital with us. I thought I was so organised, but boy was I wrong. I had really over packed! I had so much stuff that I actually couldn’t find what I needed, when I needed it. I had to much of the stuff I didn’t need and not enough of what I actually really needed. I was so overwhelmed. So I made a promise to myself that next time I would pack a little lighter and bring more of the essentials rather than all the extras.

I have put together a list of what I need and wished I had put in the first time, for both my hospital bag and my babies nappy bag.

#aliceloves @krewactive feat. Bloembee Blooms

Thank you to everyone that read last weeks first ever #aliceloves mini Instagram & blog segment featuring a Posy of Bloembee Blooms. Your support meant so much to me and thank you for all the lovely likes and comments too, you made my week. I always get so anxious starting a new segment. I look forward to sharing a product or brand I love with you weekly.

This week I am excited to be telling you a little more about the Krew Active Cleo Express Feeder Crops. If any of you have ever read my Alice In Pregnancyland blog, you would know that I am a huge fan and have worn these crops throughout my pregnancy. I love to wear bright active wear so these two vibrant colours that Krew Active have to offer totally did it for me.

Firstly a little about Krew Actice – Krew Active is founded by Kylie Rae Anderson and was launched in the Australian market in 2015. Kylie is a mumma for 3 and fektvtheir was a need in the market to start the maternity and nursing activewear company, due to feelings of being ignored when seeking maternity activewear in the major activewear chain stores.

Her vision is to allow mums to experience the convenience of breastfeeding on the go and allow more opportunities to stay fit, get active and remain social while feeding discreetly. Her garments combine style, performance, support and comfort.

img_5935

I have found this crop great to wear throughout my three trimesters. The Cleo Express Feeding Bra has a wide non roll band feature, which is soft & comfortable providing support for your growing bump. I have worn these crops during high intensity workouts, yoga and for my everyday walking.

I look forward to using the crops for my post pregnancy exercise routine too ( I will keep you posted on the support of them with breasfeeding boobies). I love that they have a quick accessible clip, so you can promptly nurse your baby on demand (I have been practicing haha). When I was breastfeeding my first born, Cruz it was so hard to just lift a non feeding crop up to breasfeed him prior or after the gym session. So I cannot wait to trial these crops out.
