@xothreeactive #behindthelabel

I am so excited to chat with the three girls #behindthelabel of @xothreeactive. I connected with these gorgeous girls during my pregnancy with Winter Rose. I was lucky enough to trial out their new label on for size when they were still working their bottoms off to get this amazing luxe maternity and postnatal label on the market. So proud of all the girls for chasing their dreams and making it happen.

Myself in my favourite XOTHREE FOXY BRA HIGH IMPACT BRA perfect for HIIT training and post training breastfeeding.

1. What is your go to Hot Drink

Krissy: Soy Cap in a Mug (Half Hot Water)

Alex: Skim Latte

Bri: Almond Milk Flat White

2. Can you tell us a little more about the women #behindthebusiness at XOTHREEACTIVE?

– All three of us had early births, collectively we have been pregnant for 220 weeks and counting, 1 x breach, 2 x c-sections and 3 x natural hypo births, 4 x babies latched straight away, and 1 didn’t. 1 x IVF cycle, 3 x miscarriages, 5 x births, soon to be 6. Collectively we have spent over 1418 days breast feeding, we have 2x boys and 3x girls. The average amount of weight we gain through our pregnancy was 15.5kg, and many sleepless nights… too many to count…..

3. What drove you to create your online maternity and breastfeeding label XOTHREEACTIVE ?

Krissy: I remember when I was pregnancy with my first born (who is now 5), I needed to stay physically fit and strong to help me “carry” my pregnancy through to full term – This was due to a bad lower back injury. So with a focus on staying active, I found that as my pregnancy progressed, I had to buy 3 or 4 different sports bras to cater for my ever changing breast size… and that was just through the pregnancy. The real frustration came along once I started breast feeding.  Finding decent maternity active wear was a challenge. What was currently on the market resembled something my grandmother would have worn – plus finding a product with adequate support and provided easy access to feeding was nearly impossible.

I think at that time, many big brands were reluctant to give headspace to their maternity products and designs, knowing that most women wouldn’t want to spend money on garments that they were only planning on wearing briefly… and they were right! Back then, and even today – Women don’t want to wear an old school maternity bra for any longer than they have to! I remember at one stage I started resorting to my pre regnancy sports bras, purely because they were giving me the proper support I was needing, but that just ended badly with a painful case of mastitis.

So it wasn’t until I just finished feeding my youngest (now 3 yr), that I took the time to start planning and creating a product that provided the style, comfort and support that women were wanting, but to somehow make the maternity component discrete. Having found a great team of girls who have struggled through the same frustrations, and with the passion to make some positive changes too new mothers lives – together we are created some beautiful investment pieces that have been designed to live long and beyond pregnancy and breastfeeding – and to be stylish and supportive enough to be worn by women who aren’t even pregnant at all.

4. One of your mottos at XOTHREEACTIVE is that all mummas should feel great about themselves. What is something you practice daily in regards to self love?

Krissy: I allocate 1hr everyday to have some “me” time. Either to exercise or meditate.

Alex: Take time out to relax and to be mindful.

Bri: Each night before bed I think of all the things to be grateful for.

5. What is your favourite Nursing activewear piece currently in store and why?

Krissy: Sammy Compression Leggings

Alex: Aria

Bri: Foxy

6. What are 3 key things a women should look for when buying a maternity and breastfeeding activewear?

The Comfort Mama – Carissa Heath #behindthelabel

One of my favourite things about being a mum/health blogger is that I get to collaborate and network with the most amazing people. I not only love the brands/businesses/products that I collaborate with but I also am lucky enough to gain friendships with many of the business owners.

I recently started chatting with the gorgeous Carissa Heath from @the_comfortmama and have I loved getting to know her a little more. I know you will love her to and gain inspiration from this amazing #girlboss so I asked her if she would be featured in my #behindthelabel feature.

I have lived in my Comfort Mama dresses from the moment I received them in the mail. I alternate between the stripes and the dusty pink look. You can wear these dresses to bed, around the house, to the shops and to school drop of and still look like your nailing the luxe comfortable mamma style. #winning

I style mine with Connies and a nappy bag for outings or slippers and a cup of tea for lounging. They have the press stud buttons for easy access breastfeeding and the material just moves with your bod.

Anyway enough from me raving about this label, here is #behindthelabel with Carrisa Heath from The Comfort Mama

Congratulations on your new business, The Comfort Mama – a modern lounge dress that provides mummas with the ultimate comfort and style. Could you please tell us a little more about what drove you to create the label?

Well there was a few different reasons but the main reason being…. My sister, who has two little humans of her own (one is 5 and the other 2 and a half) suffered terribly for a few years with post-natal depression and all the ugly bits that come alongside this. It was so terrible to watch her go through this and have absolutely no idea how to help her, I felt extremely helpless. So seeing this firsthand has made me extremely passionate about helping other Mums on their journey into motherhood. Don’t get me wrong, I love the tiny humans… but let’s be real, they don’t need much! A little food, unconditional love and a place to sleep. The Mamas are the ones that need the love and support to raise these babes!

Whilst I was pregnant last year (2016) with my first little one I searched high and low for comfortable clothing to wear after the birth (or even in hospital), during what I envisioned would be one of the most uncomfortable times I would ever go through. I figured that if I felt comfortable in what I was wearing that it might just help me feel a bit better about… well, everything!

When I couldn’t find anything available in Australia I knew this was my opportunity to create something for Mums. So I set out to design a comfortable nursing-friendly lounge/house dress that could be worn everyday at home, when visitors unexpectedly pop around… or even to the shops for that quick nappy run! To some it might just look like a simple dress but it has been designed with so much more meaning and purpose. I wanted to provide ladies something to wear, from pregnancy, labour, nursing and beyond (instead of the regular pj’s or oversized daggy house clothes) that would make them feel a little bit better about themselves and how they look.

Can you tell us a little more about the woman behind the label The Comfort Mama?

My name is Carissa Heath and I guess you could call me The Comfort Mama! I became a Mum to my lovely little man in December 2016 and what a ride it has been so far!

My husband and I have been married for 4 years and together for 10. We are self-employed and have operated our own businesses for the past 6 years together (never work with your husband….trust me!!!!). We absolutely love running our businesses and working for ourselves and were lucky enough to sell one of our businesses in February last year up in Mackay, North Queensland. To say we were exhausted, tired and completely done was an understatement so the business sale could not have happened at a better time. We had worked ourselves silly and really lost each other in the process. About six weeks later, a trip to Bali plus a little reconnecting time and we had ourselves a lovely little surprise in the form of our son, Hendrix! So we packed up our life in Mackay and moved to the gorgeous Sunshine Coast (paradise on earth!). For the next few months we pretty much did a whole lot of nothing… and it was AMAZING! Just what the doctor ordered!

And along came our son 6 days before Christmas. Let me tell you, we got a whole lot more than we bargained for! We were never really completely into the whole ‘having kids’ thing. That might sound horrible but it was the truth. We loved working for ourselves and having the freedom to do what we wanted, when we wanted. Well…. weren’t we wrong. The day Hendrix was born our whole life changed. I changed. My husband completely changed into a person I never thought he would ever be – the most supportive, caring and considerate human when I really needed him the most. I remember sitting in my hospital bed two days after giving birth, crying on the phone to my sister about all the Mums out there that don’t have the support from their partner/family like I do ☹ it breaks my heart and makes me extremely grateful for my situation.

So it was at that point that I definitely knew I wanted to help Mums in some way. I wasn’t 100% sure how I would do it, but I knew that’s where my passion truly lies.

I read on your website that you donate $2 from every garment to cope.com, that is such a lovely idea to support mummas. Such a great corporation to support. Can you tell us a little more about The Centre For Perinatal Excellence and why you choose to support this charity?

This makes my heart smile a lot! It may only be a small contribution at this stage, but I’m so happy that I can donate something to this amazing charity. I actually came across their page on Instagram and had been following them for a few months. I really resonated with their content and loved the information they were putting out there so thought no better fit when deciding on a charity to support.

The Centre For Perinatal Excellence (cope.org.au) provides a great resource for reducing the impacts of emotional and mental health problems in the pre and post natal periods.  They work tirelessly to raise awareness and understanding, breaking the stigma that prevents women from identifying and seeking help during pregnancy and that first year following birth.

4. Your garments are currently on pre order when is the release date?

I have released stock of the Elle Rose Dusty Pink and the Sonny Grey/White Stripe which is extremely exciting!

I am using a small run manufacturer in Melbourne who handmakes each dress as to the delay on colours being released ☹ but she is working her butt off, trust me! The remainder of  colours will begin to arrive for purchase within the later half of August.

5. What is your favourite way to style your Comfort Mama dress?

Give me my pair of white converse shoes, a dry-shampoo filled top knot in my hair + my chosen TCM dress (side knot is a must) and I am sorted!

Alice In Pregnancyland #32weeks-38weeks

Pregnancy Emotions. Pregnancy Eating. Pregnancy Exercise. Pregnancy Style.

I actually cannot believe I am typing the last blog of the Alice In Pregnancyland series. (for now haha) I remember chatting To Tahlia about collaborating with me for the #bumpstyle shoots and now here we are at 37 nearly 38 weeks finishing off the bump series. I have really loved building a friendship with Tahlia from @wyldefolkstudio_ while we did the photoshoots she is such a kind hearted person. I now have a friendship for life with her. Not to mention how blessed I was to collaborate with so many gorgeous labels and maternity brands. throughout the 9 months. A huge thank you to everyone that followed the series and continued to send through such beautiful feedback. Big Love to you all.

Pregnancy Emotions

The last few weeks I have been on a emotional roller coaster. I have been so excited to meet the little one, I have had mum guilt with my one on one time with Cruzie, I have cried happy tears and I have cried god knows what tears. To me having a good cry really does help me just let it all out, breathe and then let it go. All these new emotions feel like it’s my heart is expanding and I am ready to meet our new little one now.

I finished up work at 36 weeks. Best decision as I was going to work to 37 weeks, the heaviness of nursing and being on my feet got to me a little. So I am so glad to be on maternity leave. It feels so different not having to go to work again.

I have been making the most of my time with Cruzie too. I have been taking him to singing and reading at the library, reading and extra snuggles at night time, park hangs and babycino dates. I am loving being off work with him again.

Everyone has been asking how Cruzie has been? Does he know? I think he knows a change is coming. He won’t let anyone rub my belly but David, he pushes their hand away or pulls my top down. We brought him a little dolly and he has been kissing it, changing its nappy, pushing it around in a pram. It’s so cute to watch. I think he will be a great big brother.

I keep telling myself that I need to slow down as my body is tired, but its true “nesting” is a real thing. I keep thinking of new things to do and clean. I forget to rest and I am on the go all day. Then I have the worse braxton hicks and back ache in the evening. So I should listen to all the advice and just put my feet up. Haha easier said than done though. Plus entertaining my little man. He sleeps well in the afternoon so I should just lay down then and watch some Offspring on tv. Maybe tomorrow? haha.

I went and seen my midwife for a 36 week scan and check up. The cheeky bubbas legs are sitting frog legged but the head is right down there. I keep thinking in my head that the baby will be here early because Cruz came early but I shouldn’t get my hopes up. I discussed my birth plan and what I wanted. My birth plan is to have a natural birth, hopefully not be on the monitor like last time, have a bath or hot shower, use essential oils and just have David in there. David is my rock and he really did help me through the breathing techniques last time. I do still feel anxious about the birth experience and labour but I am just trying not to think about it, what will be will be.

Pregnancy Eating.

With eating I have been a bit all over the place.

I wake up so hungry and have to eat before I go for a walk. For breakfast I normally have smoothies or protein pancakes. Thats its the I just swap it up between the two.

Then for snacks I have almonds, nuts, apple or a bliss ball. Sipping on so much raspberry leaf tea to ha.

Lunch is lots of greens and a source of protein or a chia sourdough with cheese, figs and cucumber sandwich or the same combo on rice cakes.

I am obsessed with Bolognese at the moment with zoodles (zucchini pasta), I am addicted love it. I also love white fish or salmon with greens for dinner, I have gone off all brown rice and sweet potato probably because my belly already fills so fall at night.

Cravings – organic milk chocolate from Flannerys Health Shop … YUM!!!!

Pregnancy Exercise

Walking 30-45minutes around the block (filled with hills) but very slowly as I get pelvic pressure. I put my podcast on and enjoy the metime I love it. Makes me feel better. I love doing about 20-40 push ups daily on the kitchen bench and 20 squats on the shower too. About 3 times a week I use my little 2kg weights and do a little arm workout too. If I have having an exhausting day I just don’t exercise at all. Maybe just do a stretch. The last week I have really slowed down, but thats okay, my body needs the rest.

Pregnancy Style

So besides loose boho styles and a few tight comfortable maternity dresses I have been living in maternity leggings and a jumper. Argh so comfy. I do love dressing up the bump, but I feel my wardrobe has become very limited and don’t really want to add to it till the baby is here.

For this #bumpstye shoot I wore a dress I purchased for a hens day a few months back. Its called the FAWN WRAP DRESS and I brought it from the @theselfstyler online. Guess what they just restocked it too. You can buy it HERE. Its perfect to take you through your pregnancy journey and will be great for breastfeeding too. Its not actually a maternity dress but it should be its so comfortable.

Tahlia and I decided for the last bump photoshoot we would find a beautiful spot with long grass (secret location) and invite David and Cruz to come along for some family photos. We had a lovely afternoon watching the sunset and Tahlia came with her family too, so nice. I hope you all enjoy the photos.

Thank you again for reading.

Big Love,

Alice (in healthyland) xoxo

Jennifer Horner - Alice In Healthyland
35 weeks pregnant

Jennifer Horner is an amazingly talented photographer from Brisbane. She shoots maternity, newborn, family & children and motherhood sessions. Jennifer is an incredibly gifted woman and I am so thankful that she was able to capture such a treasured moment in my life.

From the first email of contact, to the first moment I met Jennifer, she was extremely professional but so friendly to chat with. I found her very easy to connect with, (which is great when you are standing there just in your underwear in front of just her and the camera haha) and she made me feel welcome and relaxed in her studio.

After connecting with Jennifer via email, she sent out a questionnaire and information pack about the the maternity shoot for me to complete and send back. Asking a little bit about myself, how many children I had, my husband, the colours I loved and what I had in mind for the photoshoot and what she could offer. She was very happy to answer any questions or queries I had in the lead up to the shoot and was prompt with her replies. I thought this was a great way for Jennifer to get to know me before she meet me.

SHARE ME (19 of 60)

The morning of the photoshoot I had my hair and make up done by Suzie, owner of An Eye For Style and then headed straight to the studio for the shoot. When I arrived, Jennifer had the studio set up ready to go (it was beautiful, filled with lots hanging blooms from the ceiling and a great playlist of tunes in the background). She had all the gowns & kimonos colour coded and ready for me to start trying them on straight way. She also had other options not far to offer if need be as well. I felt extremely comfortable and had lots of laughs with Jen, as she prompted me into different positions as she would snapped away with her camera. Jen would quickly change the backdrop or scene while I slipped into the next outfit too. All very well organised. She would show some of the images on her camera to me throughout the shoot to which I loved.

My experience with Jen was exceptional, I would highly recommend her to my friends and family.  She is not only creative and talented, but so welcoming and always making sure I was happy and comfortable throughout the whole experience.

So thank you Jen for capturing this precious memory of my bump. I look forward to one day gifting these images and sharing stories of my pregnancy with my children.

A few of my favourite maternity activewear pieces …

When I was pregnant with Cruz I struggled to find activewear for my growing bump and breasts haha. I shopped at a few of my favourite activewear stores and was sad that they didn’t provide for the pregnant mumma. They just offered the “bigger sizes” in the “looser styles” to me. Which was fine in some cases, but not always as sometimes the sizes wouldn’t fit my body shape. For example, to big in the the arms and but, or to tight round the belly, or to tight on the boobs. I felt that feeling comfortable and supported while being active, weaher it be HIIT, yoga or just walking it was an absolute must for me. I felt more motivated to move when I was putting on the activewear that fit correctly.

This time round I decided I was going to treat myself and just go out and get some proper maternity activewear to exercise in. Being a blogger I purchased some pieces for my maternity active wardrobe but I also collaborated with  some amazing labels too.

I thought I would put together a list of some of the amazing maternity/breastfeeding active labels and pieces I have worn throughout this pregnancy.

Fertile Mind – @fertilemind

Enji Activewear 3/4 tights

These brands and pieces I have shared are just a few of my favourites. I think it’s fantastic that there is a market out there for staying active during pregnancy. It doesn’t matter what you are doing to move your body, it can be as simple as stretching or walking or as high impact as you like. All our bodies are different. We want the best for our growing bump, so do what you feel is right for your baby and your body.

I have walked every day of my pregnancy, trained at HIIT AUSTRALIA till 21 weeks, did yoga at home on you tube and tried a few pregnancy workout booklets, so I feel I have truly tested the Activewear to its limits. I am currently just walking, light weights and doing yoga at home at 36 weeks and I feel that is more than enough for my body now.

Thank you for reading. I hope you find the list helpful. Let me know your thoughts.

Lots of love,

Alice In Healthyland xo
